FREE Search Engines Submission

:: THOUGHTS ASIDE ::

How to tackle promoting a website, if you are a newcomer to the subject? The most challenging part would be finding a good service provider; someone with expertise, backed up with years of experience on the market. There are thousands of such services on the web, but we recommend Software Submit.NET search engine submission services for website owners. While being an expert in software promotion, they also have a great range of services for website owners, you do not have to sell software applications to be able to benefit from their services.

View blog traffic in real-time

Having a real time feed with your blog traffic is very nice. If you are hosted on a machine that you have shell access, it's very simple, you can just look at the webserver logs. But what if you're hosted on free hosting platform, like blogger, wordpress etc. If you Google for "live traffic feed", you run in to "feedjit", it's actually the first result. Yes, it's that simple. Go ahead, click on it. Now click on the large, green button on the right. Choose the free option ( you can go paid if you want to fancy with it some more), and start customizing:
After you're done customizing, click "GO" and get your code:

and embed it wherever you like. If you are a blogger use, this is a third party widget, that can be embedded accordingly. As you can see, mine is on the right gadget bar. Depending on how much space you are willing to offer, you can customize it to show only the latest X entries, it doesn't really matter, because that isn't the best part. Now if you click on "Real-time view" if will open your traffic feed in a new window/tab:
What I like the most is that you can see what site referred you, and if it's a search engine, you can see what was the visitor searching and how they found you. Cool, eh ?

Free followers on twitter.com, free facebook likes

In a previous post, I reviewed a very good, well made social exchange portal, I'm talking about twiends.com.
Twiends has been through some changes, the most notable being the removal of the websites tab, which means you may no longer use the service for traffic exchange on your website. Users of the site have been very unhappy with this change, and in my opinion this was not only of losing free traffic to their website, but losing the autopilot way of collecting twiends credits(now called "seeds"). It was very easy to setup an autoclicker and check it from time to time, and it was just credits after credits without even having to give facebook likes, or to follow twitter people you don't know or you don't care or like what they have to say.

But now, for all the unhappy people that mourn the websites tab of twiends, here comes twittfame. Twittfame has been under some heavy redesign and upgrade. After being a simple twitter follow application that you could use by allowing it on twitter, it became a portal very much like twiends, and YES, it has a WEBSITES option!

The interface is simple and easier to use than twiends, you can just click on each tab and watch videos, browse sites, like fanpages, or follow twitter people to collect points. You can add your website, youtube video in the "Your social network" section, on the top right and assign points you are willing to pay per visit. Points can be gained tweeting your referral link, you get 25 points every time you tweet it(there is a four hours limit), and of course you will receive points for every user that signs up from your link.

IPv4 addresses for sale!

Nortel, telecom equipment maker in Canada, went bankrupt. So now they're selling what they can. And it seems they will make a great buck out of their  666,624 IPv4 addresses, since they found such a wealthy bidder.

Microsoft has made an offer of $11.25( a total of $7.5 million)
a piece, and will be able to immediately use a block of 470,000 address, while the rest will become available after bankruptcy proceedings will end.

It seems that IPv4 addresses became quite a deal, especially after Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announcement of handing out its last block of IPv4 addresses a few weeks ago.

It's very interesting how Microsoft was able to purchase the address block, despite ARIN's(The American Registry for Internet Numbers) policies that required the blocks to be returned by Nortel.

Apple removes "Gay Cure" App

Apple, via iTunes, provided for its users, an application called "Gay Cure".

The application's, provided by, Florida-based Christian group, Exodus International, is meant to cure people from gay sexual orientation.

Exodus says that the app aims to give users "a useful resource for men, women, parents, students and ministry leaders" to "reconcile their faith with their sexual behavior".

Since 15 February until last night, the app was available for sale.

Even though Apple didn't comment yet, the application has been removed due to pressure by gay rights activists. Change.org hosts a petition  that demands "that Apple Remove "ex-gay" iPhone App". The petition has been, so far, signed by 150,458 people and it seems it had the desired effect, as the application is no longer for sale on iTunes.

Japan Nuclear Alert: Fukushima Reactor 3 could explode

Fukushima nuclear power plant personnel has been evacuated after gray smoke raised from Reactor 3, according to Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) a operator.

Tune-in here for real time update.

Reactor 3 raises most of the problems as it was damaged by an explosion and is loaded with MOX fuel, a mixture of uranium and plutonium oxide, whose emissions are very harmful.

An TEPCO official said that at 06.55 GMT they received information that gray smoke emerges from Fukushima Reactor 3 and ordered evacuation of workers.

Reactor 3 was the hardest hit by the Richter 9 earthquake, which was followed by a tsunami on March 11, while the upper roof was completely destroyed last week by a powerful explosion caused by a buildup of hydrogen ensuing decompression operations.

Previously to the sudden emergency state that occurred,  Jappan Prime Minister, Naoto Kan, considered that the situation is improving gradually at the Fukushima nuclear power plant, fire fighters and specialists continually acting to avoid a major accident.

March 19 Full Moon: Earth and Moon come close, The Lunar Perigee

 Tomorrow is March 19, the day the Earth will come closest to the Moon since 1992. The event is called Lunar Perigee.

The moon will pass just 221,567miles away from our planet.

 The internet community is split in 2:

- the "prophets of doom" on a side, they say this is the beginning of the Apocalypse;

- scientists on another, they say it has nothing to do with the lunar perigee, and if the earthquakes or volcanic activity will happen anyway.

It's hard for us, the ordinary people,  to trust any of the sides. Both, scientists, and the so called, "prophets of doom" are very active and provide many theories, but no side is able to provide evidence.

Both, International Centre for Radio Astronomy's Pete Wheeler and australian astronomer David Reneke, agree on Wheeler's statement: 'There will be no earthquakes or volcanoes erupting, unless they are to happen anyway,' he told news.com.au. 'The Earth will experience just a lower than usual low tide and a higher than usual high tide around the time of the event, but nothing to get excited about'.

However, in the years  1955, 1974, 1992 and 2005, when this phenomenon previously occurred, the world was struck by extreme weather events or earthquakes and volcanic activities.

Out of all these, it is certain that no one knows everything about this phenomenon, and we are all still learning, and, at the rate technology is evolving, in a couple of years will might be able to find out more. Let's hope it will not be too late ...

Japan Nuclear Crisis: Wikileaks Reveals 2008 warnings

Wikileaks reveals that Japan government has been warned since 2008 about the consequences of a possible earthquake over the Japanese nuclear plants.

The government acknowledged the warnings and built an emergency response center at the Fukushima Daiichi plant. The response center was designed to resist to 7.0 earthquake. March 11 quake's magnitude as since been reported to 9.0.

Wikileaks also reveals that a member of Japan's lower house, told U.S. diplomats in October 2008 that the government was hiding nuclear accidents.

If these pieces of information turn to be true, along with what Mr. Even said,  the Japanese government will have SOME things to explain.

Japan Hiding Truth about Nuclear Crisis ? US West Coast Is Safe

Uzi Even, Israeli nuclear expert has accused Japan of trying to minimizes the danger of nuclear disaster in the region after the explosions in central Fukushima Daiichi

"If there is fallout of plutonium oxide, a most toxic substance that they use in the reactor that exploded, no one will be able to set foot on the site for thousands of years", Even said.

Israeli expert believes that the Japanese government hidesmany things .

"In my assessment, the damage is liable to be far more extensive in scope than is being reported and for a very long period of time", he said.

Even also accused Japan of not telling the truth "because of shame".

Even though, according to The California Department of Public Health, the radiation leaks in Japan do not pose a threat for California yet,  the situation is being closely monitored by the radiological branch and air, water and the food supply are routinely tested.

CDPH has developed the Nuclear Emergency Response Plan, which is a plan for response to radiological emergencies.

California's emergency supplies stockpile includes potassium iodide (KI) tablets. Potassium iodide tablets are useful for blocking, at the thyroid level,  some types of radiation.
Potassium iodide tablets are not recommended at this time, and can present a danger to people with allergies to iodine, shellfish or who have thyroid problems. Potassium iodide tablets should not be taken unless directed by authorities.

Tune-in here for real time update.

Honda, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Sony, Hitachi - what these all have in common ?
Yes, the answer is Japan ...

Specifically, for some of the above brands, this are the disaster consequences:
Six Hitachi manufacturing facilities, located in the northern area of Japan, heavily struck by the March 11 earth-quake, have been closed and are in inspection state. No estimates for reopening.
Product types like Plasma TVs, LCD TVs, camcorders and DVD players are the most affected by this.

Toshiba says is examining damage to its plant, no estimate for the reopening dates have been made yet. Norio Sasaki, Toshiba President has been ordered by Prime Minister Naoto Kan to help with efforts to stop radiation leaking from the Fukushima plant.
iPhone and iPad NAND Flash memory chips used in the are being manufactured by Toshiba. 32GB NAND chip price increased by 20% in component markets.
iPad 2 and similar tablets seem to be the most affected products.

How to prepare for natural disasters: earthquakes and tsunamis

How to protect yourself in case of an earthquake

Preparation: In your house, anchor heavy objects and furniture that could fall, remove flammable materials, explosive or toxic. Get supplies: water, food, a flashlight, a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher; prepare survival kits. Identify in advance the places where you could hide and protect .
When the earthquake starts be calm and act immediately!

Inside a building: stay inside the building, do not run out. Stay away from windows, mirrors, especially the large windows. Best places in the state are resistant beams of the building or furniture on the side of resistance in squat position, because the if ceiling collapses here, it can create a "triangle of life", places where you will not be crushed.

Stairs collapse first. Do not run up the stairs, do not use the elevator. Stairs can be full of terrified people. Do not jump out the window or balcony.

Inside a vehicle: Stop as soon as possible and if possible avoid stopping near buildings, trees or under bridges. If you're not in a garage, it is best to sit in the car. If you are inside a garage, leave the car immediately and squat right beside it, in case of ceiling collapsing, it creates a "triangle of life".

Outdoors: Lie on the ground. Do not try to flee. You might be hit or thrown into a crack appeared in the soil.

Avoid crowds. Do not run. Step away from buildings and tall trees. Watch out for falling plaster, chimneys. Do not descend into the subway, underground or in tunnels, because they could collapse.

Do not rush immediately into the house, building, wait to see what happens so you can avoid getting cautgh by a possible aftershock. This could demolish the building already cracked, weakened by the main earthquake.

After the earthquake: Do not leave the building immediately - check if the road is safe. Extinguish the fire. Do not use an open fire. When opening doors, cabinets, drawers and things could fall inside.

Do not light matches, lighters, electrical in case of gas leaks. Get dressed appropriately for the season. Do not take unnecessary things with you.

Be prepared for the aftershocks that may follow, possibly just as powerful as the initial shock

How to protect yourself in case of a tsunami:

The sea quickly retreats until almost to the horizon, a wave that then arises is getting bigger. The wave is actually a "wall" of water, after the wave has reached top form, it keeps it like that for several miles of distance.

A tsunami is composed of many such walls and usually the first wave is not the largest. It takes 10 up 30 minutes from the moment when the earthquake triggers the phenomenon until the first wave is formed, while the entire disaster takes about an hour. The only warning is that you can refer to water withdrawal. When you notice this, you must immediately flee into the safe area, which starts a mile away from the beach in case of a settlement with flat terrain or over 50 meters in the case of a cliff or settlements with high building.

Japan earthquake: Earth's axis shift, Nuclear Alert in Japan !

United States Geological Survey (USGS) states, through the mouth of their expert, Dr. Dave Applegate, that the planetary axis was permanently shifted by 10 inches (25 centimeters) as a follow up of yesterday's earthquake in Japan. Also, Japanese shorelines were permanently shifted by 2.4 meters (7.8 feet).

The earthquakes in Chile 2010 and Sumatra Island 2005 also affected Earth's axis.

Earth axis shifting causes thing such as, shortening of  the day, changes in the global weather.
The 10 inches shift might sound big as you see it on a ruler, but the effects won't be seen in the short term, they will become visible only after centuries.

A more worrying after effect of yesterday's earthquake in Japan is the damage took by the Fukushima nuclear plant.

Japanese news agency Jiji announced on Saturday that a strong explosion blasted the Fukushima nuclear plant, causing a huge white cloud of smoke. Radioactivity is 20 bigger than the usual. Is it possible that several employees have been hurt,  and the core of the reactor melted, while the walls and roof have been destroyed.

Japanese nuclear safety agency officials did not confirm the incident but have said that they are currently investigating the cause of the smoke cloud. Japanese authorities have extended the evacuation zone around nuclear plants and Fukushima I and II to 20 kilometers, according to Kyodo news agency. Fukushima is 250 kilometers away from Tokyo.

Saturday morning, Japan declared a state of emergency for five nuclear reactors at two plants after the units have lost cooling capacity.
Operators of the reactor 1 at Fukushima Daiichi took measures to lower the heat and pressure inside the reactor after the electricity stopped and the emergency generators were disabled, mainly affecting the cooling system.

 Japanese Prime Minister asked the emergency evacuation of 45,000 residents in the area. Authorities recommended that people near the plant and seal their houses, not to drink tap water and cover their faces with masks or wet towels

Continuous measurements of radioactivity levels confirm that there have been leaks of radioactive cesium 1,000 times higher than normal.
However, the only immediate threat for Tokyo would be lost of electrical power, the electricity company has already asked customers to minimize usage.

Japan Earthquake: More earthquakes coming ? Moon causing it ?

On  March 19, the Moon will be in the nearest point to Earth since 2005. Experts say that the proximity could cause earthquakes or eruptions of volcanoes.

The Richter 8.8 earthquake that destroyed the North of Japan today could be only a part of the Moon effect. It was the strongest earthquake in Japan's history. The world's largest earthquake took place in Chile on May 22, 1960, with a magnitude of 9.5.

1955, 1974, 1992 and 2005. These are the years when the Moon, was very close to our planet. Whenever this phenomenon occurred, mankind has faced all sorts of natural disasters. Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, cyclones, hurricanes and tsunamis that killed thousands of people.

On March 19, the Moon will be with over 20,000 km closer to us than the average distance at which the orbit.
More specifically, the Moon will move to 356,578 kilometers from Earth, while the average distance from our planet is about 384,400 km.

Since about a month ago, the Earth seems to be boiling:

  • On 22 February, a 6.3 Richter earthquake that struck the city of Christchurch, New Zealand, and made hundreds of victims;
  • March 7, 2011. In Hawaii's largest eruption occurred in the last 14 years of Kilauea volcano;
  • On March 7 - Solomon Islands was struck by a magnitude 6.6 earthquake;
  • March 9 -  Richter 7.2 earthquake strikes near the east coast of Honshu, Japan;
  • March 11Richter 8.8 strikes the North of Japan, causing massive tsunamis;
Astronomers say that on 18, 19 and 20 March, the moon will be 15% bigger and 30% brighter than usual.

Last time when the Moon was this close,  230,000 people died.

In 1974 Cyclone Tracy devastated the city of Darwin, Australia, from Christmas Eve to Christmas Day. It was the most compact hurricane or equivalent-strength tropical cyclone on record in the Australian basin. Tracy killed 71 people and caused $837 million in damage, destroyed more than 70 percent of Darwin's buildings, . Tracy left more than 41,000 out of the 47,000 inhabitants of the city homeless prior to landfall and required the evacuation of over 30,000 people.

On September 2, 1992, Nicaragua was hit by a earthquake that was found to be the first tsunami earthquake to be captured on modern broadband seismic networks. The inital shock occurred at 0:16 GMT, and was followed by several aftershocks. Chinandega and León departments of Nicaragua took the most damage, but it was also felt in  Nicaragua at Crucero, Managua and San Marcos and at San José in Costa Rica. It was the strongest eathquake that hit Nicaragua since the earthquake of 1972. At least 116 people die , most of them were children asleep, more than 68 people were reported missing and over 13,500 left homeless in Nicaragua. At least 1,300 houses and 185 fishing boats were destroyed along the west coast of Nicaragua. Total damage reported in Nicaragua was estimated at between 20 and 30 million U.S. dollars.

The 2005 disaster began on 26 December 2004, in the island of Sumatra, with a 9.1 Richter earthquake, also referred to as the Nias Earthquake. It was the third most powerful earthquake since 1965 in Indonesia, it lasted for eight minutes, and its strength made the entire planet to vibrate an inch.

This earthquake caused the BIGGEST tsunami history. The waves measured up to 30 meters.

In the 14 countries that were hit, 230,000 people died and left 1.7 million homeless.

Japan is known as a highly seismic area, and the Japanese people are trained in facing these natural disasters, and the country infrastructure is built that way, and still there was a lot of damage and lives loss. But imagine the damage if that the earthquake today would have hit a less earthquake prepared area.

Google - traveling without moving ...

I love Google's location detection system... it takes me to places I've never been before !

Couple of weeks ago, Google decided to switch my default search language to Russian, I said: "Oh well" .... and I switched to typing "google.ro" in the address bar instead of using Firefox's search box.. Yeah, I know, the search box can be customized, but I'm too lazy for that ( yes, I am THAT lazy! ). Then, at some point, I wanted to sign up for some service that asked me about my location but also gave me the choice to detect it automatically using Google's service, and here I find myself in the middle of nowhere ... Yekaterinburg, Russia!

One day, I accidentally searched something using the search box again, and BOOM, the Russian language is gone. I thought it's fixed, but then I see on the right bar of my Google page: "detected location: Chicago, Illinois", as long as it's English or Romanian, I can live with it.

But wait, it gets even better ! After a couple of days, the usual "Google Search" and "I'm Feeling Lucky" were saying: "Penelusuran Google" and "Saya Lagi Beruntung" ....

The address bar happily stated: http://www.google.co.id - Google Indonesia!
It could at least send me to Thailand,  give me a nice massage too ;-)

Luckily, one day, I stumbled into the Report IP Problems form ! "Victory", I yelled! Filled the form, hit the submit button, thanked God and waited.

And here I am, today, back to my sweet home - Google România!

It was a long journey, Phileas Fogg knows the feeling, I enjoyed it(NOT!!), and it's so good the be home!

Thank you Google!

Yahoo launched its Romanian version. It's not much, just a collection of Romanian news, written in Romanian, obviously.

@yahoo.ro email domain is available, people can create email accounts on it, but the user base is the same with @yahoo.com , so if you want to create some_user@yahoo.ro, but the "some_user" alias is already take on yahoo.com, then it won't be available for .ro either.

It isn't much, but it's a start, so, welcome yahoo.ro!

Things are changing ...

Google changed their search algorithm, this is supposed to be a hard to take hit for the content farms. Google's official blog states:

"This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites—sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful. At the same time, it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites—sites with original content and information such as research, in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on."

" As “pure webspam” has decreased over time, attention has shifted instead to “content farms,” which are sites with shallow or low-quality content. In 2010, we launched two major algorithmic changes focused on low-quality sites. Nonetheless, we hear the feedback from the web loud and clear: people are asking for even stronger action on content farms and sites that consist primarily of spammy or low-quality content."

Now Facebook announced new comments system, aside they will provide a form of comment moderation, the most interesting part is that  the new plug-in will allows comments you make on a website to appear in your Facebook news feed. Obviously, this will drive traffic from Facebook to that specific site, as your friends will want to see what are you commenting about and maybe read the full story.

So, as Google's move will make it harder to get easy traffic to your website, Facebook is trying to help you. So maybe you should go get some more Facebook friends and fans for your page ....
